Adult & Couples
Meet Mia Tanya Kellam
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have conducted therapy in both English and Spanish for over 20 years. I received my BA in Psychology from Boston College and both my MA and EDS in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Seton Hall University. I provide individual, family and couples therapy to those who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression and relational conflict. I take pride in providing a safe, caring and non-judgmental environment where patients can explore feelings, eliminate dysfunctional patterns and develop new life skills that can lead to a life filled with more honesty, peace and joy.
My Approach to Counseling
My integrative approach to therapy treats the root of your issues, not just the presenting symptoms. This ultimately leads to more lasting, positive changes. I use proven therapy techniques to help patients develop coping skills and life strategies to improve their cognitive and relational patterns. I utilize psychodynamic, relational, cognitive and behavioral techniques, as well as, meditation and deep relaxation to help patients improve their overall quality of life. This can lead to a deeper mind-body-spiritual connection, and ultimately help you to function with more stability.
In conjunction with therapy, acute symptoms can often be helped with preventive more natural remedies to provide relief. Referral and collaboration with Integrative Medical Doctors coupled with counseling can lead to more holistic and lasting life changes. Pharmaceutical therapy is sometimes needed to treat symptoms, and can be provided by a psychiatrist or neurologist upon referral.
If you have a marital conflict, are a parent with a child or adolescent who is struggling, I welcome you to contact me for help.
Therapy for Children and Adolescents
If your child or adolescent is experiencing very difficult challenges, seeking professional help can be life changing for the entire family.
The focus of therapy is to identify an accurate diagnosis and understanding of the behavioral, social, emotional academic and/or developmental issues. An emphasis on family therapy and parenting sessions is an integral approach to helping the entire family system function with more success and stability.
The goal of therapy is to use proven techniques to empower each individual to develop a healthy sense of self, while also improving family relational patterns.
I am experienced in working with both private and public schools in the surrounding area. I have developed a strong rapport with local school administrators and counselors, and an intimate understanding of the social dynamics, resources and curriculum at each individual school.
This allows me to successfully worked with schools and teachers to provide individual interventions and consultation to improve a student's academic and emotional success in the classroom.
If your student has an IEP, 504 Plan or is struggling in the classroom and may need accommodations, an outside professional evaluation can be crucial to their success. I can provide psychological and ADHD diagnostics and make IEP or 504 evaluation requests to your child's school and/or referral for academic testing.
If your high school student is beginning the College exploration and application process, it can be quite overwhelming for the whole family. In order to reduce stress and maximize success, I can help guide you and your student to navigate the entire College planning and application process.
